M3A3 Short Paper: Research Task- World Investments
It seems like a large part of the United States (both private and government) is owned at least partially by foreign companies and foreign governments.
But what about foreign ownership in other parts of the world?
In completing this Research Task, students will discover interesting information about the top 100 non-financial TNC’s from developing and transition economies, ranked by foreign assets.
This is just a snapshot of what is going on all over the world, but students will begin to see how globalized FDI has become.

In Module 2, students were introduced to the globalEDGE web site. They will use this site now, specifically to review UNCTADs annual World Investment Report.
Each year´s Report covers the latest trends in foreign direct investment around the world.
To prepare for this written assignment, you will need to:
Read Chapter 8 of the text. Go to the globalEDGE web site at globalEDGE
In the search engine type in World Investment Reports (WIR).
Click on the 2014 WIR (it will be the 285 page document).
For the exercise, you will also need the Annex Tables (specifically table 29) at the bottom of the WIR page.
You will be doing Exercise 1 under “Global Edge” in Chapter 8 of your textbook.
Based on the World Investment Reports web site, create a one page paper with a list of the top 10 nonfinancial transnational corporations from the developing world. Please refer to Chart/Table 29. Provide a summary of the countries and industries represented. Indicate if you notice any common traits from your analysis.
The list and summary can be incorporated into a Word table supplemented by a narrative analysis of the common traits you noticed.
