If you have any knowledge of wholesalers, distributors, jobbers, etc., share your experiences. For example, have you worked for a company in which you had to order products wholesale? Have you ever worked in a warehouse or for a shipping company? Share your experiences. Talk specifically about how this organization acted as an intermediary in the supply chain.
If you don’t have any experience in such areas, do a little investigation. Examples might include visitng a retail store and asking for a tour of the warehouse area and how it functions. Or, you can visit a shipping company like DHL or Roadway and talk to them about their operations. Or visit a catalog or internet company to see how orders are taken and processed. Discuss your experiences and what you learned. This is a project best done in person, as it’s virtually ineffective to try to do this online!!

For this discussion I will send you to one of the nations biggest resources for wholesale supply. Its called the Thomas Register of Manufacturers. Go to their website and use the search line to look up a product of interest. For example, searching for the word tires will bring up suppliers of everything from lawn mower tires to aircraft tire manufacturers.
Search for a product line of interest and talk a bit about the results you found on the Thomas Register. Then, take one of the companies from the research list and present some individual detail on who they are and what they offer as a wholesaler of the product line you were researching. For example, what retailers might they sell to (they might actually list them on their website)? Does the website discuss how to become one of their retailers? If so, discuss some of those details.
As with all our discussion boards, don’t merely copy from these web resources. Instead, read, digest, and paraphrase what you’ve seen.
