ASSIGNMENT #1 – Work Life Balance Research Paper Value:40% of Final Grade

· You will prepare a research paper on the evolution and current state of one of the major topics involved with and impacting on work life balance/blend today. This paper must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of challenges facing individuals, families, employers and/or communities in managing work, family and life issues. It is essential that you know how to conduct research in this area since it is rapidly changing. Make sure your research is geographically relevant ( Canada) and industry-related to support your topic, of peer-reviewed quality (at least 2 references), keep your use of blogs, newspaper and opinion pieces to “extra” references, not part of the required 3 minimum ( as per the rubric). I am looking for research which offers perspectives that support or challenge your position; then offer your experiences and opinion regarding these areas. Some topics you may choose are, but not limited to:

· Issues and options regarding maternity and paternity leave and childcare

· Issues and options for Eldercare and the sandwich generation

· Issues and options regarding telework, telecommuting and/or flex-time

· Issues and options presented by advances in technology and the digital era

· Impact on WLB from the changing definition of “family”

· Gender differences related to work life balance/blend

· Issues and options due to globalization and international/multinational companies
