Week 1 – Individual Assignment: Legal Underpinnings of Business Law

2. Identify and discuss a relevant consumer protection statute identified under Consumer Protection in Chapter 8 of your text in conjunction with the product recall that you have identified.
Week 3 – Individual Assignment Elements of a Contract
The paper must be four to five (4-5) pages excluding title page and reference pages, following APA format.
Address all of the following parts of this assignment:
Suppose that the Fabulous Hotel hires you as head chef under a two-year employment contract. After two years, another hotel wants to hire you. However, in the original employment contract you signed with the Fabulous Hotel, the following paragraph appears: The below-signed agrees not to work as a chef for another hotel in the same metropolitan area for a period of two years after leaving our employ.
Identify which elements of contract must exist for this agreement to be enforceable. At a minimum, your paper must include a detailed description of the concepts of offer, acceptance, legal consideration, capacity, and legality of purpose. Is this contract governed by common law or the UCC? Why? Discuss under which circumstances this non-compete agreement would be unenforceable.
Week 4 – Final Paper Outline – Legal & Ethical Issues that Arise in Business
The paper must be one to two pages, excluding the title page and references page(s), and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
Address all of the following parts of this assignment:
a. Prepare a one- to two-page, single-spaced outline of your Final Paper.
b. The outline must contain all major sections that will exist in the Final Paper
c. The outline must be accompanied by a references page that includes at least 10 scholarly sources that will be used in your Final Paper.
Week 5 – Individual Assignment – Anti-discrimination Laws Related to Employment
The paper must be two to three pages, excluding the title page and references page(s), and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
Address all of the following parts of this assignment:
Your supervisor has placed you in charge of hiring a new, full-time administrative assistant for your department.
a. Write an advertisement for that position that complies with federal law. This advertisement must be detailed. The minimum length of your job description must be 300 words. You can make up the job details.
b. Write 10 illegal questions that must not be asked, and 10 legal questions that may be asked during the interview. Clearly indicate which questions are legal, and which ones are illegal. Explain your reasoning.
Week 6 – Final Paper: Legal and Ethical Issues that Arise in Business
Focus of the Final Paper
Prepare an 11- to 15-page paper (excluding title page and reference page) that analyzes a legal/ethical issue or situation relating to a current, previous, or potential future work environment. Use at least 10 scholarly sources that are suitable for research in a graduate-level course.
Your paper must include the following:
1. A description of a business situation that presents a legal and ethical issue. The business situation must be from prior, current, or anticipated future employment experiences, or a current event. The description of the business situation must not exceed two pages.
2. Analysis of the ethical concerns raised by the situation.
a. Apply at least two different ethical theories to the situation to support at least two different outcomes.
b. The paper must identify which ethical outlook, as applied to this particular situation, will result in the best legal outcome for the business.
3. Application of the relevant area(s) of law that has (have) been addressed in this course to the situation (e.g., constitutional law, contracts, anti-trust law, securities regulations, employment law, environmental law, crimes, or torts) and a discussion of the applicable law as it applies to the situation identified.
a. The application of law must be accurate and thorough.
b. The discussion of the different applicable law suggested by the situation being examined must reflect a thorough understanding of the relevant legal analysis.
4. A recommendation to reduce liability exposure and improve the ethical climate or the overall ethics of the situation.
