•Carolina Biological Supply item #228904: Perfect Solution Cow Eye, Plain.

•Carolina Biological Supply item #621136: Intermediate Dissecting Set I is the recommended option, but students have the option to choose any other available dissection tool kits for a greater or lesser cost..

Preparation
Step 1: Prior to completing this dissection, it may be helpful for you to consult web resources for the dissection of a cow eye:

Procedure

A. External Eye Anatomy

Obtain your cow eye specimen for dissection. Read the instructions provided with your dissection kit TWICE in order to properly observe the EXTERNAL anatomy of the eye. Follow the instructions for locating the following EXTERNAL structures:

•Sclera.

•Cornea.

•Muscle.

•Adipose tissue.
Use a digital camera to capture a minimum of two clear, in-focus photographs of your dissected specimen with the aforementioned structures, labeled using either text boxes or pins with labels.

B. Internal Eye Anatomy

Read the instructions provided with your dissection kit TWICE in order to properly observe the INTERNAL anatomy of the eye. Follow the instructions for locating the following INTERNAL structures:

•Iris.

•Pupil.

•Lens.

•Retina.

•Aqueous humor.

•Vitreous humor.

•Ciliary muscle.

•Choroid.

•Fovea centralis.

•Macula.

•Optic disc.

•Optic nerve.
Use a digital camera to capture a minimum of two clear, in-focus photographs of your dissected specimen with the aforementioned structures, labeled using either text boxes or pins with labels.

Results

The photos of your dissected specimen will comprise the Analysis / Data section of your lab report.
